How does the traffic projection tool work?

We pull in a website’s historical data and analyze major competitors to find the true potential of leveraging SEO. Then we create 4 simple scenarios to help clients understand how they might improve the amount of traffic they receive from search engines.

This model looks at your previous 12 months of search performance and forecasts it forward for 12 months. This model can be used to understand how your website will perform over the next year by doing nothing (in regards to SEO) and whether or not you need to invest in SEO.

This figure is built on the assumption that doing “traditional SEO” will improve your existing keyword rankings by X% over the next year. Traditional SEO means tactics like on-page enhancements, link-building + technical fixes (NO content creation). This growth rate can be used to understand how an SEO campaign might impact organic traffic over the next year.

This growth rate is built using keywords currently owned by your competitors (where you have no visibility). These keywords could potentially be captured by creating additional content for your website around these keyword gaps. Each traffic projection is built on keyword data and monthly search volume. You are then able to apply your own growth models (or use ours) to forecast the potential growth of each keyword. The reason our models are so accurate is because of the ability to forecast at the keyword level. You can apply bulk logic across a site, or zero in on important keywords and do a more detailed analysis for each. Check out our full guide detailing how we build forecasts.

Google’s organic algorithm is complex and unpredictable, making it difficult to perfectly forecast SEO traffic. However, it’s not impossible. Our models are surprisingly accurate because of the ability to forecast at the keyword level.

We work on a credit system - each time you want to run a new forecast for a website, it costs you a credit. If you sign up for out Starter package (5 credits/month) you can run projections for 5 sites each month. You maintain access to each website and can edit and update forecasts anytime you'd like.
